Piling the Holiday Pounds

Around this time of the year  it a perfect excuse to eat, drink and relax. If your working, away on vacation or just relaxing at home none of us are immune. Immune to what? Well putting on bit of extra weight of course. It’s almost unavoidable as friends and family get together to celebrate the holiday season.

Who can resist an ice cold beer or a glass of while during this time? Just make sure you bring a designated driver. With work Christmas parties, family and friend hosting events most likely alcohol is going to be available. We know that most of us really like to enjoy ourselves around this time of the year. So if you’re wondering why your belt is a little too tight starting January 1st you shouldn’t be surprised. Just remember most alcoholic beverages hold a fair amount of calories.  To make things worse our brain does not register or pick up of the liquid calories we’re consuming. All that extra goodness will just be stored away in our bodies until we burn it off. So keep that in mind.

There is also just an abundance of food. From turkey, roast, pop, eggnog, desserts, candy and more. Every party will have so much food to choose from. So think about it, the extra weight doesn’t just come from a single family gathering. But what if relatives host parties and friends. Think of all the calories your consuming in just 1 or 2 weeks time. It really adds up. Which doesn’t help, as you just want to try almost everything in sight. If you’re having too much fun, there are people who like to go for seconds later in the night. Bad idea, but who can’t help themselves.

The last ingredient to this Christmas weight gain is the fact that we are so busy. Running around Christmas shopping, stuck in more traffic, possibly working over time or away on vacation. Most of us just don’t have time to work out. Or if we do, we just like to put of off and just tell ourselves we’ll continue in the new year.  I recommend, try your best to work out as much as possible. You just don’t want to head down to the gym after the new year and be stuck with everyone else. The ones who promised themselves to start loosing weight Jan 1st. It will be 4-6 weeks before the crowd goes back down to normal levels. You’ll find yourself looking for an available treadmill or searching for some free weights. The place will be packed. So you may want to consider jogging outside as an alternative. But don’t expect the gym to have the regular volume that you’re normally used to.

Just remember this fate is available if you just disciple yourself. But if not I completely understand. There is just so many things to do, see and of course eat and drink. So putting on that little extra weight is just part of the package. Well I hope you enjoyed this short informative post.

From everyone here at The Daily Grind. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.
