Finally a director has been selected to helm the next Star Wars film. This is great news on who has been selected as their work is truly amazing. In the past few months there has been so much news buzzing around about this franchise. First Disney buys Lucas Films, which is huge news. Disney is well known for releasing really great movies . Next thing we hear is that there will be an Episode 7 in 2015 and soon after J J Abrams is directing it. Many fans have been waiting for good news such as this as they’ve devastated by the reedited versions of the original films and 3 weak new ones afterward. Just going forward Jar Jar Binks will not be mentioned. So I better not hear any outcries of people going “NOOOOOoooooo!!!!”
Some of the other announcements that have surfaced is that some of the original cast members will reprise roles. This is truly amazing. On a side note I was a big Star Wars fan growing up, I have all the movies, read a ton of the books and owned many of the video games. But that soon fizzled as I lost interest with all that changes and the lousy new films that were out. More specifically The Phantom Menace, which I lined up for 4 hours to get tickets…
So who will be returning? Will Chew be making a comeback? If so will that be before he dies in one of the books? I’m sure we’ll be seeing our favorite 2 droids R2 and C3PO again. Though no official announced at this time I’m hoping for Billy D Williams to return. Known for playing Lando Calrissian.
I also hope Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher will make a return of course. But we’ll have to wait and a see until something official is announced. Just crossing my fingers at this point.
So what have fans been speculating in terms of story? Will Disney be aiming at one of the novels such as Heir to the Empire? If you haven’t had a opportunity to read this, it’s a very good trilogy. A highly recommended read you get your hands on it. It’s what also brought me back to the Star Wars universe. There is also the Corilla Trilogy which takes place right after Return of the Jedi. The only problem here is that the original cast is a lot older. So maybe we’ll be seeing a movie taking place way into the future.
There is so much material to work with from many of the authors whom have added to the Star Wars universe. That Disney should not have any problems finding a story for Episode 7. But the question is, will they want to use a story that’s already out there. Will they want to write their own story to add to this universe. Only time will tell at this point.
Since the cast is old now and I highly doubt Disney will want to use a story right after Return of the Jedi. Because I’m sure we’ll have fans jokingly scratching their heads wondering why Luke SkyWalker aged 30 years right after he left Endor. Maybe that battle was highly stressful. But use Solo children to take part in a new saga. Which I’m completely fine with. We will also be introduced to new characters never seen before instead of recycling many of the well known characters we see pop up continuously.
So folks, lets see what happens later this year and what surprises Disney has in store for it’s Star Wars fans.
